The EMS Club is one of the most active clubs at MIT Sloan, organizing several major events every year and offering students once-in-a-lifetime experiences that will surely highlight their MBA experience.

CONFERENCES

MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference

The EMS Club is the proud sponsor of the unrivalled MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. Our goal is to provide a forum to discuss the increasing role of analytics in the sports industry. The conference brings together sports industry professionals (executives and leading researchers) with students interested in the changing dynamics of the sports industry. It is a unique educational opportunity and provides exclusive opportunities for learning, interacting, and networking. Last year's conference sold out more than a month in advance, hosting both students and industry professionals from around the world. Featured speakers included Ray Allen (All-Star Guard, Boston Celtics), Adam Silver (Deputy Commissioner and COO, NBA), Bill Simmons (ESPN Columnist), Mark Cuban (Owner, Dallas Mavericks and Co-Founder and Chariman, HDNet), Brian Burke (President and General Manager, Toronto Maple Leafs), Jonathan Kraft (President and COO, The Kraft Group), Jeff Van Gundy (ESPN Analyst and Former NBA Coach), and Carla Christofferson (Co-Owner, Los Angeles Sparks). For more information, check out our conference website here.

MBA Media and Entertainment Conference (MEC)

MIT Sloan is one of five top business schools that come together to organize an annual MBA Media and Entertainment Conference (MEC). The MBA MEC is the premiere event for business school students focusing on the media, entertainment, and technology industries. Each February, MBA students from the five founding schools and across the country gather in New York for a full day of speakers and panels covering all aspects of the industry -- from entertainment finance and venture capital investing to marketing, digital distribution, and gaming. In 2009, MEC added a case competition sponsored by the New York Times, which received entries from over 50 teams. The conference serves as a valuable educational experience and networking opportunity for attending students - in previous years, MEC has hosted over 600 students from 40 different business schools. Check out the conference website here.

LABS

SportsLab

In the Fall of 2008, the EMS Club started partnering with companies in the sports industry to form what is now know as the SportsLab program. Building on the successes of our inaugural year, the EMS Club has lined up SportsLab projects with the Boston Bruins, Maine Red Claws and Converse for Fall 2009.

EMLab

In an effort to grow the lab aspect of the EMS Club, we saw the value and opportunity to offer labs in the entertainment and media industries. For the first time, the EMS Club is happy to announce an EMLab project with Wintergreen Hospitality.

TREKS

New York Trek

Each November, the club organizes a trek to top entertainment, media, and sports companies in New York City. In the past, we have met with executives from NBC Universal, MTV, Virgin Media, the NBA, and the New York Knicks (MSG), to highlight a few.

Los Angeles/Las Vegas Trek

Similar to the New York Trek, each January the club organizes a trek to Los Angeles and Las Vegas to meet with top entertainment, media, and sports companies on the west coast. In Los Angeles, we visit top executives at companies such as 20th Century Fox, Activision, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Disneyland. Las Vegas includes behind-the-scenes views and visits with executives at casinos like Harrah's and Wynn.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Golf Tournament

The EMS Club hosts an annual scramble golf tournament early in the fall semester as a way to meet like-minded golfers at MIT Sloan, network with tournament sponsors, and enjoy a day on the golf course.

Fenway Park VIP Tour

Thanks to the relationship our club has established with an MIT alum working with Fenway Sports Group, every year we are given a VIP tour of Fenway Park and given a glimpse into the business behind the success of the Boston Red Sox.

Speaker Series

In addition to all the events the EMS Club organizes, we also make an effort to bring in industry professionals to share their experiences and give students an opportunity to make connections with top executives in the entertainment, media, and sports industries.
